Son of two immigrants from the Dominican Republic, “Roy the Savage” was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. After going through an underfunded New York City Public School System, “Roy the Savage” is emerging as a young champion who appreciates life’s opportunities. Growing up “Roy the Savage,” has always felt that change was a part of his life. He saw this first hand as his parents family owned business was gentrified into moving from the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn to East New York.
As an adolescence he began writing poetry at the age of seven. He enjoyed performing at school shows and in front of class rooms. He attended Washington Irving High School which during his attendance was ranked as the third worst New York City public high school. Nonetheless, he managed to graduate and attend the State University of New York (University as Albany). He has graduated this year with a Bachelor of the Arts in the study of Journalism and World History. His love affair with music started at a young age as he would listen late nights to DJ’s on the radio. As a performer he flourished performing in at poetry slams at the University of Albany. His favorite performance was when he probated at his university for the nation’s first and largest Latino based fraternity: Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Incorporated. Overall, “Roy the Savage” feels obligated to service the community and try to improve the world around him, because with all the adversity he has seen, he knows there is more work to be done. |
